Lisa PoundsNavigating the overwhelming role of feeding your children healthy food is difficult to say the least. Once you get past the pureed baby food stage and graduate to real food, there are seemingly endless decisions that impact your child’s health and help create eating habits that will last a lifetime. So, no pressure, right?

Like many women, I am a busy working Mom who likes to think of myself as a health conscious foodie. Facing the new challenge of providing healthy food for my young daughter, I quickly realized that, in fact, I had a lot to learn about the type of foods that she needed, and how much she should eat. I spent months researching and learning all I could about healthy, nutritious, and great tasting foods that my little girl would eat. I visited local farmers market and tried out endless recipes on friends, their kids, and my family. While there are an increasing number of convenient “healthy” food options for adults, other than perhaps a “smaller” version of an adult meal, there were few choices available that were nutritious, natural (no artificial ingredients), fresh and ready to eat for children. Green Plate Kids was born from the idea that there had to be parents, just like me, who didn’t have the time to provide their children with healthy, fresh, and nutritious meals.

 

The goal of Green Plate Kids is to provide all the research and nutrition you need, into every single menu item so that you can easily choose healthy meals for your child leaving more time to relax and enjoy your family. We also want to provide tips to help you create healthy eating habits for your children. I have assembled a talented team made up of a registered dietitian and trained chef, who is also a mother of two, along with a very talented and experienced Executive Chef. Our goal is to deliver a healthy balance of the “greenest”, most nutritious, and best tasting food for you and your children.

As you probably already know, recent studies show an alarming rise in childhood obesity, early onset diabetes and other diseases impacted by poor nutrition afflicting our children at astoundingly young ages. It is more important than ever to instill healthy eating habits in kids as early as possible.
